Die weißen Blüten sind sehr klein, besitzen 4 Blütenblätter und keinen Kelch. Sie stehen in einer dichten Traube. Die Früchte werden im Herbst kirschrot und sind erbensgroß und giftig.
Die beiden Laubblätter sind herzförmig und parallelnervig.
Man findet diese hübsche kleine Blume auf schattigen nährstoffarmen Böden in Laub- und Nadelwäldern. Wo sie vorkommt, findet man größere Bestände. Sonst ist sie selten.
